What are cookies and similar technologies?

Cookies are small text files that websites store on your browser or device to identify your browser, remember settings or measure how a site is used. Cookies can be “persistent”, remaining until they expire or you delete them, or “session” cookies, which are removed when you close your browser. Cookies on this site include cookies we ask third parties to set, such as analytics cookies that measure traffic and usage.

Browser web storage (local storage) works like a cookie but the information stays in your browser. We use it for one thing only: remembering the cookie choices you make here, so we don’t keep asking. That record never leaves your device and is not sent to us.

The types of cookies used on this site

• Strictly necessary. Needed for the site to work and cannot be switched off. On this site that is just the record of your cookie choices, described above. There is no login, so no other necessary cookies are set.
• Analytics. With your consent, we use Google Analytics to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the site: which pages are most popular and how visitors move around. Google Analytics sets cookies beginning _ga, and the information is processed for us by Google. If you reject these, the analytics script is never loaded and nothing is collected; if you withdraw consent later, collection stops and the cookies are removed.
• Embedded video.Our introduction video is played from YouTube using its privacy-enhanced mode (youtube‑nocookie.com). With your consent, YouTube may store cookies or similar data on your device when you play it. If you decline, the YouTube player is not loaded at all; you can still choose to allow it at the moment you press play.

We do not use advertising or social media cookies, and we do not track individual visitors across other websites.
